Desert Survival and Hiking Basics
Location: Cave Creek Museum
Time: 2pm to 4pm
Description:
On Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 2-4 PM, Cave Creek Museum Presents will showcase local desert expert Paul Diefenderfer on the subject “Desert Survival and Hiking Basics.”
“The desert can be a unforgiving place with extreme temperatures, limited water resources and potential wildlife encounters,” says Diefenderfer. “Trails sometimes are not well marked and often follow natural contours of the landscape. You may be navigating sections of trails that are ill defined and cell service often is difficult to come by so you’ll want to know how to navigate canyons, washes and boulders. What should you carry? When should you go? How do you get help if you need it?”
For newcomers to the desert foothills, this is an invaluable presentation – even for old hands at desert hiking, people will learn something new.
Presenter Diefenderfer is a hiker, a mountain rescue specialist, a rock climber a mountain biker, a blacksmith, a millman, an artist, an animal rescuer and a valued volunteer at the Cave Creek Museum.
The presentation, which will be held in Cave Creek Museum’s historic church, is free to museum members and $10 for non-members.
